Introduction

What can I write about myself?

Since I don’t need to write with the detail of an autobiography, I will only focus on the aspects related to martial arts.

I am Tibor Kerecsenyi.

As a child, due to being overweight and lazy, I didn’t have good physical condition. I didn’t excel in physical education classes in elementary school either. It was typical for me to set the goal of at least not being the last one during running on the sports field.

A change came into my life in vocational school (1982). In my second year, I decided to learn self-defense, and I chose Kyokushinkai Karate.
I studied karate for a total of 7 years with sempai Imre Gém (during which time I was also in the army (1987-88), and I tried to maintain my physical condition). I achieved 7th kyu in Kyokushinkai Karate.

Sempai Imre Gém deserves to be mentioned with a few words!
I greatly respect him for his humility, technical knowledge, and excellent teaching abilities.
One of his sayings has stayed with me:
„Nobody can be so selfish that they don’t pass on their knowledge!”

Eventually, I realized that the next levels involved Circular Kicks as well. The gedan mawashi geri was not a problem, but when it came to chudan height, I started to realize that it would be a very difficult and long process before I could move on.

My realization about the mawashi geri eventually led me to Wing Chun kung fu. After spending a year with Gyula Cserpák (1989), I found Wing Tsun Kung Fu (1989-93). I was glad to find that there was no need for high kicks here. At first, the mindset of Kyokushinkai Karate made it hard to understand the WT system, but I soon got the hang of it and became one of the most enthusiastic students of Master Norbert Máday.

In the Wing Tsun organization, I reached the 6th level. At first, they didn’t hand out levels easily here either. One had to work for them!
I was fortunate to be an instructor in a young, developing organization (I opened schools in Derecske, then in Nyíregyháza, and later in Mátészalka), so my 6th level was not equivalent to the current ones! Since then, many years have passed, and my development has not stopped!

After I left the organization, I sadly thought that I would never wear the master’s uniform. This sometimes filled me with a little envy, and it took a long time for me to finally realize that the levels no longer meant anything to me. I clarify: degree of masters certain level are worthy of recognition and respect!

After a few years of practicing outside the organization, fate led me to pass the 11th student level exam at the time with Masters Nick Smart and Milan Prosenica in their organization (Pro Am Wing Tchun Organization). By then, I clearly didn’t feel the importance of levels anymore, especially since, in my opinion, I deserved a higher level at that point!

Finally, the connection with Master Nick Smart broke off, and I continued practicing on my own. There was another very brief period when I participated in a few lessons at Master Milan Prosenica.

After this introduction, based on the levels mentioned, it can be concluded that I am not a master. Some might even label me an amateur or a impostor.
At the same time, it is clear from the description that the level I have reached from the beginning until now speaks for itself.
I am proud that with the 7th kyu, 6th, and 11th levels, I have reached this level! I owe this to the fact that I never stopped practicing [wingt∫un]; it has been a part of my life every day since then. The years from 1982 to 1989, and the many years since, have certainly left their mark on my way of expression…

With this in mind, please read my blog and descriptions. Thank you!
